I know people have been hitting me up and showing love for the project and I really appreciate it..It gives me the fuel to keep going with this music thing and believe me, that means the world to me. I want to get this project on bigger websites (like okayplayer, hiphopdx, etc.) so the grind is still on, but for now I thought I’d give ya’ll who do have it a little insight into why I said what I did on it..so here we go:

1. U Must Love Me – The intro, just how I decided to start the tape off. It was one of the first songs I recorded for the project and it was around the time Michael Jackson died..I’m a big fan of his music & his death impacted me..so when Mydus hit me with beat, it just reminded me of that ol’ Jackson 5 Mike and my pen just started to flow.

The song is essentially about the come up and how, coming from Baltimore, I’m used to not having much respect but not letting that stop me from earning it. For those who aren’t really used to my style, I usually have double meanings and metaphors with almost every line..I’ll try to leave hints in each description so that you can catch them..but it’s not something that people usually get first listen, you gotta let the music absorb!

2. Passing By –  This song was another one that the beat just told me exactly what to do..it’s a song about people who hate but secretly admire you and how that affects your process when it comes to creating music. I kinda use different traveling metaphors at the end of every verse..1st car, 2nd plane, 3rd train..I dunno I was just havin fun with it, tryin to be as lyrical as I could.

3. Maybe You’ll Understand – A lot of people have asked me about this song..lol to be honest it’s a song that many people could take offense to..it’s about racism; more specifically from my point of view at the time. I literally wrote it on a bus stop bench after I encountered a racist white guy. If you follow along knowing that now, I hope the message is a little more clear. But yea, it’s mainly about racism/class-ism/ and all of the other isms that affect America.

4. Dread Man –  This one is a little more straightforward, I have locs but that’s not really what the title is about. I’m saying they literally “dread man” or they are sick of black people. I’m trying to give people a look into my eyes from the view of a black man in America. It’s just my point of view…don’t mean to offend.

5 & 6. Interlude/Long Road Ahead – The interlude is powerful to me because it conveys hope within the darkest hour..Long Road Ahead is about that, keeping your head up when the odds have you down. I dedicated the song to my friend who I learned was in the hospital at the time I was going to the studio to record the song. He was literally on his death bed so I had to vent that somehow. The song means a lot to me, it’s probably one of my favorite songs ever.

7. Pretty Girl Complex –  This is a simple song, I just wanted to express how I was feelin about a girl at the time..nothing more to it but I tried to add as many metaphors in my verses as possible..I hope you catch em.

8. Wasting Time –  Yea this song..was a way for me to vent. At the time I wrote it different people kept telling me to quit & give up, focus strictly on school..some people that are very close to me call my music “unproductive” and I wrote the first verse/bridge from their perspective. The last verse is my answer to them, in a sense.

9. Tune In –  To be straightforward without making it complicated the song is about music and the music industry. I tried to envision what music would have to say about the fuckery going on in the industry today if music had a voice..I don’t know how to explain it beyond that.

10. Lady With The Green Eyes –  Haha..this one is another one of my favorites..It’s a song about the relationship between people and money. Like I was thinking “how would that actually play out if it was a real, human relationship?” In the end I liberated myself from the greed for her..but I still need her. This is also my favorite collabo with my friend Black Diamond, he murdered the vocals.  I’m working on a real video for this..so stay tuned.

11. Alone High -  So yea if you don’t know, I smoke a lot lol. I think the song is self explanatory but basically I wrote a brief story about a time that I was … alone high lol.

12. B4 I Die (feat. 810) - Me & 8 have been in this rap shit since we were in the 7th grade, we had a rap group and we were a duo in high school so when we work together shit is just natural & flows. This song is actually a remake of a song we made when we were 15 or 16 (we’re 20 now). Basically what we’d do before we die..”it’s as simple as that.”

13. What’s Real? – Well..people keep askin..lol seriously though, people ask me that a lot, especially when it comes to Hip Hop. This is my answer to them..I talk about music, love & life and anything I think is real or fake and why. I purposely went with a different vibe for this one because I felt that hard drums wouldn’t convey what I was going for, only the “bouncy” feel. Got a few Michael references in em cause I wrote it around the time he died, it was just on my mind.

14. Outta Reach – A song I wrote for people in Baltimore and around the US/World who don’t know me..basically me introducing myself to the world & lettting everyone know what I’m about. “check the title of the song, over ya head it flies..” I’m outta reach.

15. Beautiful Flowers – I wrote this as a metaphor about underdogs in life…in the same way a rose can grow anywhere, it doesn’t matter who you are as long as you stay true to yourself and don’t sell out for money or fame, you’ll make it where you want to be in life. I used literal imagery of flowers & plants to get the point across..

16. Purple Hayes –  Another song that has deep meaning to me..lol it’s about a girl I cared about. Max really came through with her vocals and everything just flowed together smooth. I wrote the song itself about a year ago and I just sat on the beat, for some reason I couldn’t record it. But it fit the vibe of this project so I went with it and finally did it. As far as the story, yea it’s true..everything I said happened, I just told it from my point of view.

17. Shake it Off - I just had to kill it…that’s all LOL ain’t no more to it.

So there you have it…what I was thinking with each song…Feedback is definitely appreciated..

Until Next Time…

PEACE
